We enjoyed looking at planet earth on the Google Earth website. We found the United Kingdom and then Crowle where we live. We made a large map of Crowle on our carpet area using familiar places in our community such as school, Tesco, Co-op and Seven Lakes. We added trees and houses. We also discussed different services and occupations in our community and we enjoyed playing these in self-directed time.
Some of our English lessons were based on ‘A Bagful of Stars’ by Addy Farmer. We retold the story in our own words using a story map, wrote words from pictures in our own bagful of stars and played the story with props. We really enjoyed watching the live performance of the story on out school trip.
We listened to the nativity story and enjoyed singing Christmas songs for our Christmas Singing Celebration.
We made snowman cards, calendars using an ICT art programme, a hanging decoration and Chocolate cake Christmas trees.
In maths we practised rote counting to 100, touch counting accurately to 20 and counting back from 20 to O. We can recognise and order numbers to 20. We practised saying the number that is one more or one less than a givennumber; added groups of numbers to find out how many altogether and measured using non-standard units and explored capacity in self-directed time.
We also did lots of learning about describing and naming 2d shapes. We enjoyed singing days of the week songs and saying which day comes before and which day comes next and reciting the months of the year. We explored coins; ordering them and recognising them and their values.
We have shared lots of stories. Our writing focus has been writing simple words and captions based on stories and current themes.
In phonics we have enjoyed learning new sounds and how to blend them to read words and simple sentences. We have also enjoyed learning how to write letters. We have been learning letter names through an alphabet song.
In PE we practiced balancing and jumping and we moved in different ways on the benches. We recreated the story of ‘A Bagful of Stars’ using movement and dance. We explored controlling a range of objects including balls, quoits, hoops and beanbags.
In our PSHE work on ‘Celebrating difference…’ we discussed how we are all unique over a series of lessons.
Parents took part in our launch of Bumblebear from the Booktrust, a phonics workshop and in our weekly secret storyteller sessions.
