We began this half term exploring the the season of Winter. We made snowmen in playdough and wrote poems about what they could do if they were alive. We also explored freezing and melting through ice experiments and painted pictures of Winter trees.
We then commenced our topic work about dinosaurs; looking at different types of dinosaurs, discussing features of their environment and what they ate; exploring and making our own dinosaur bones. We did lots of dinosaur activities in English and Maths too such as measuring footprints and exploring words to describe dinosaurs.
In maths we have been practising counting to 100 and backwards from 20, exploring doubles to 10 and teen numbers (partitioning into tens and ones), looking at patterns including symmetry and naming and describing solid (3d) shapes. We have also been exploring lengths, heights and weights.
In English we have been using our phonics knowledge to write in a variety of themes, using Rainbow Grammar to help us construct sentences. We have been practising our cursive letter formation.
In phonics we practised reading and writing simple words, captions and sentences including a wider range of tricky words.
In PE we have enjoyed practising a range of different movements such as skipping and galloping and practising object control with balls, beanbags, quoits and hoops. We practised and performed a dinosaur dance incorporating all the things we have been learning about dinosaurs.
We have been developing our Growth Mindset; exploring resilience when putting coats on ourselves and learning to ride a bike; thinking about things that help us get better at something and things that don't; relating perseverance to Incy Wincey spider and our own goals and developing an attitude of self-challenge through a chopsticks story and activity.
