Spring 2 learning
A look back at spring 2
In English we completed our work on The Spiderwick Chronicles and Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical Guide around you by inventing our own fantastical creature and writing a report about it.
We began our new novel 'The Butterfly Lion' by Michael Morpurgo and have really enjoyed the first few chapters, hearing about Bertie’s story from Africa. We have written diary entries and persuasive arguments about the text so far. In reading we have made predictions and used our ERIC skills to answer questions about the story. We have particularly enjoyed comparing Wilshire to Africa. We are learning lots of new words from this topic such as kopje and veld.
In maths we completed units on fractions and perimeter. We have started a unit of work on area using the mastery approach.
In spelling we have used the sounds and syllables approach to learn how to spell words and about spelling patterns. We also held our termly spelling bee and were proud of the all the finalists and the winners in year 3 and 4.
In grammar we have explored apostrophes for contractions and possession, linking adverbs, subordinating conjunctions and the present perfect tense.
In RE we have discussed miracles through the question - What is good about Good Friday?
In computing we have been learning how to write algorithms in computer programming using the turtle logo and scratch apps.
In music our learning is focused around one song: Lean on Me - a soul/gospel song by Bill Withers. We develop our musical skills and understanding based on this song. We also practiced lots of songs for our performance: The Roman Invasion. We thoroughly enjoyed performing to the whole school and to our families. We hope you enjoyed it too!
In French have explored Easter traditions and we have learnt lots of Easter words such as Paques and oeuf.
In PE our topics were gymnastics and net/wall games. In gym we practiced floor exercises with a partner. In net/wall games we have been learning tennis skills, playing shots with precision and control.
In PSHCE topic we have been exploring how to keep our lives healthy and we have focused on the British value Mutual Respect.
