We completed our Space topic this half term. We explored the work of astronauts in space, the International Space Station, stars, constellations and rockets.
We have enjoyed exploring signs of spring and the Easter celebration. We have made Easter cards, baked Easter egg-shaped biscuits and decorated an egg. We enjoyed taking part in the Easter bonnet parade.
In maths we compared and ordered numbers to 20 and matched numerals to 20 to numbers in a set. We practised counting in 2s and 10s and learnt how to recognise that teen numbers are one ten and some more in fun activities such as using large bricks and playdough . We also did lots of learning about adding and subtracting and completing and writing number sentences to solve number problems.
We have been learning the days of the week in order and are able to name the days that are ‘yesterday’ and ‘tomorrow’. We have been learning to tell the time to the o’clock and using language of position and direction including ‘left’ and ‘right’. We really enjoy controlling the beebots when learning about direction.
We have read a wide range of Space stories including How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers and Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy and we and have written sentences about these stories. We have also written instructions about how to make a craft space rocket. We have discussed spring poems and written our own using spring pictures as our inspiration.
We really enjoyed our school visit to Hill House to meet the author Caryl Hart. We really enjoy listening to and discussing Caryl's stories such as How to Grow a Dinosaur and Supermarket Zoo. We even made our own packed of seeds for what we would like to grow in our gardens!
Phonics (reading and writing)
In phonics we have been learning to read and write sentences containing phase 3 phonemes and tricky words, including 2-syllable words.
In PE we have practised moving in different ways on the small apparatus, team games, hopping, skipping and bouncing balls and making a dance about a journey to space.
In our PSHE work entitled ‘Healthy Me’ and we have been discussing ways to keep healthy including exercise, healthy eating, sleep and cleanliness.
