Welcome to Snowy Owls!
This half term will be very busy! At the start of term we will be introduced to our novel ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes and we will exploring this novel in depth through English learning; writing character and setting descriptions, diary extracts and stories based on the novel and answering questions about the text in reading using our ERIC skills - explain, retrieval, inference and (author) choice . We will also be exploring how to bring our drawings to life in art.
In maths we will be learning place value and addition and subtraction.
We will have a focus on spelling, learning how to spell words accurately using a range of strategies and we look forward to taking part in a spelling bee at the end of the term.
We will also be learning grammar in English lessons consolidating knowledge of word classes and how to use prepositions, conjunctions and adjectives and adverbs in our writing.
In science our focus is on the local area exploring the wild animals and plants which thrive in our locality.
In Geography we will be looking at why York is such a cool place to live.
In RE we will be exploring Diwali and how this is celebrated.
In computing we will be learning desktop publishing and using a drawing programme to supplement our novel study, geography and science learning. We will also be learning about how to stay safe online.
Our music topic is called ‘Let your spirit fly’ and we will be exploring aspects of music including listening and appraisal through these songs.
In French we will be celebrating European Languages day on 26th September and our topic is called Moi (me). We will be learning how to greet and introduce ourselves.
In PE we are practising skills through invasion games.
