Week commencing 16.12.13
In Literacy we will be finishing off our unit on information books. We will be writing our own information texts about Christmas.
In Maths we will be learning to continue repeating patterns using Christmas objects.
We have a big focus on Science this week.We will be looking at natural and man-made materials, investigating how the shape of materials can be changed by applying a force and exploring the changes made by heating and cooling materials.
It is our party on Tuesday afternoon. Can I please remind you to send party clothes in a bag and we would greatly receive any donations of party food - boys bring savoury snacks and girls to bring sweet treats! Thank you.
Week commencing 9.12.13
In Literacy we will be writing a glossary of Christmas words to go in an information book. We will also be writing a detailed description of Santa's Grotto!
In Maths we are learning about division. We will be solving division problems by sharing into equal groups and repeated subtraction using a number line.
It is the Christmas concert on Wednesday so keep learning your lines! It is also Christmas dinner on Friday so we will be making party hats ready for that.
Week commencing 2.12.13
In Literacy we are starting a new unit of work on information books. This week we will be learning about the key features of non-fiction, how to sort words into alphabetical order and using dictionaries to find the definitions of words.
In Maths we are learning about multiplication; mainly focusing on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Please remember to keep practising this at home!
In art we will be making our own printing tiles of ourselves then using this to print our art work for our calender.
Please remember to bring your scripts every day this week to practise your words for the Christmas play.
Week commencing 25.11.13
In Literacy we are finishing our unit of work on different books by the author Julia Donaldson. We will be using role play and a story mountain to plan our own story based on 'The Smartest Giant in Town'. At the end of the week we will be using our plans to write our own story with a few changes!
In Maths we are learning about position and direction. We will be learning lots of directional vocabulary and using this to give and follow instructions. We will also be describing the position of objects in a grid.
This week is Road Safety week. We will be learning about how to stay safe when crossing the road and we should travel safely in a car.
We are finishing our work on 'The Great Fire of London' this week. We will be thinking about how the fire brigade has changed as a result of the fire.
Week commencing 18.11.13
In Literacy we are continuing our unit of work on different books by the author Julia Donaldson. We will be exploring the main characters and settings from her books in more detail as well as writing book blurbs and reviews.
In Maths we are learning about money. We will be finding totals, working out change and solving word problems involving money.
In History we are continuing to learn about the Great Fire of London. We will be learning about the key events in more detail and looking at the damage that was caused by the fire.
Week commencing 11.11.13
In Literacy we are starting a new unit of work on different books by the same author. We are focusing on books written by the author Julia Donaldson. We will be predicting and sequencing events in the stories and exploring the characters through role play and hot seating. We will also be working on using commas in a list.
In Maths we are learning how to solve word problems using RUCSAC. We will also be learning how to tell the time to the hour, half past and we will begin to move onto quarter past and to.
We are starting our History unit of work on 'The Great Fire of London' this week. It is also our Inspire afternoon on Thursday and we will be creating art work inspired by this topic.
Week commencing 4.11.13
In Literacy we are continuing our work on poems with a focus on fireworks and bonfire night. We will be looking at how words can be shaped to show their meaning, reading different firework poems and writing our own acrostic poem by the end of the week.
In maths we will be learning how to create block graphs using data we collected using tally charts last week. We will also be moving onto measures (weight, capacity and length).
In Art we will be creating Autumn collages using natural and man-made materials.
We are also very lucky to be having a session with 'Sublime Science' on Monday afternoon where we will be taking part in some exciting Science experiments!
Week commencing 28.10.13
In Literacy we are learning about senses poems. We will be reading lots of Autumn poems, going on a senses walk to collect describing words and phrases and writing our own poems.
In Maths we are learning about data handling. We are sorting information into tables, using tally charts to collect information and showing the data using pictograms.
In DT we are starting our 'Homes' DT project. We will be investigating different types of houses, practising using different joining techniques and designing, making and evaluating our own houses. It will be very exciting to create our very own model village! Please remember to bring in any boxes and packaging you have at home on Monday.
Week commencing 14.10.13
In Literacy we are learning how to write instructions. We will be reading the story of the Little Red Hen and helping her make some bread. We will be following instructions to make a paper plane, looking at the key features of instructions and making our own bread before writing our own set of instructions to make sure the other animals know how to make their own bread!
In Maths we are learning about number facts for numbers to 10 and number bonds to 20 and 100. We will also be learning that addition is the inverse of subtraction in our work all week.
In Art we will be using the photographs of our front doors to help us make clay doors. We will be focusing on creating texture and using our observational skills.
On Friday afternoon is it our class treat and the children have chosen to have a pyjama party. Can children please bring their pyjamas in a bag ready to get changed into after lunch.
Week commencing 7.10.13
In Literacy we are continuing with our 'Silly Stuff' poetry. We will be writing tongue twister and nonsense poems based on poems we have read. We will also be writing a narrative poem to enter in a poetry competition!
In Maths we are learning to solve problems involving 3D shapes and we will also be working on doubling and halving.
As part of our Geography work we will be going on a walk round Crowle on Tuesday morning to have look at the local areas and buildings. We will then be planning our route to school and thinking about the buildings and the features in Crowle.
Remember we are taking part in 'No Pens Wednesday' this week. All day we will be putting our pens and pencils down and focusing on speaking and listening in our lessons. It will be a really fun and practical day!
We will also be practising for our Harvest Festival on Thursday. Keep practising the song and prayer!

In Literacy we are starting a new unit of work on poetry called 'Silly Stuff'. We will be reading and exploring tongue twister poems, performing them and starting to write some of our own! Also remember to bring in your favourite book this week to share with the class.
In Maths we are learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We will be learning about their properties and using this to describe them. We will also be coming up with our own criteria to sort them into different groups.
In Geography this week we will be starting our local area study of Crowle. We will be learning about different types of houses. Please remember to bring in a photograph of your house and door by Friday to help us with our work.
On Thursday we have an extra special assembly for you all to enjoy. We will be having visitors in to share some animals with us!

Week commencing 23.9.13
In Literacy we are continuing with our work on stories with familiar settings. We will be planning and writing our very own dinosaur story this week!
In Maths we are learning about addition and subtraction. We will be adding/subtracting 2 digit numbers and adding/subtracting 10 and multiples of 10.
In Science this week we will be learning about living and non-living things.
On Thursday it is European Languages Day. To celebrate this Striped and Spectacled Owls are having their very own French cafe where children will be able to experience a French breakfast at the same time as learning how to ask for it in French! We will also be learning how to count and say the colours in French.
It is our Macmillan coffee morning on Friday in the school hall. I hope you are able to attend and support such a worthy cause.
