Week beginning 27.6.16
This week we have started a new unit of work in English. We are using an eBook to help us write a report to answer the Big Question ‘Where Would You Like To Live?’ For your homework I would like you to choose one of the countries in the book and research it. You might want to consider what schools are like, what food they eat, games children play etc.

Week beginning 20.6.16
Next week it is the Summer Fayre. For your homework I would like you to decide on an idea for our class stall. You need to make it fun and exciting as well as making sure it will make our class a profit. Please include lots of detail about how we could make your idea work. Have fun!

Week beginning 13.6.16
Last week we finished our DT project ‘The Great British Bread Off’. For your homework this week I would like you to research different breads from around the world. Please be creative in how present your findings. You may decide to:
-Make some bread using a recipe from another country (bring in photos or the bread!)
-Research some recipes
-Find out the history behind different breads from around the world

Week beginning 6.6.16
This week in maths we have been learning about telling the time. For your homework I would like you to show your learning on time.
 
-You may want use clocks in your house to read the time and record when you are doing things over the weekend.
-You could record time intervals between activities e.g. what time you arrived at the park, what time you left and how long you were there.
-You could use the TV magazine to work out how long your favourite programme was on T.V.
 
Please use a mixture of both analogue and digital time.
It is really important for your child to practise telling the time in real situations as well as at school to really embed what they have learnt. 

Week beginning 23.5.16
This week in art we have been looking at famous portraits by artists such as Picasso, David Hockney and Andy Warhol. For your homework this week I would like you to create your own self portrait. You may wish to work in the style of one of these artists or use different techniques such as drawing, painting, collage or even sculpture! You might even want to get technical using a computer programme to create your portrait. 

Week beginning 16.5.16
This week we have been asked by St.Oswald's church in Crowle to design a birthday card for the Queen's 90th birthday. There will be one winner from the school. Please design your card on the blank paper provided.

Week beginning 9.5.16
This week in English we have been working on using conjunctions in our writing to extend sentences. Please use the following conjunctions and put them into sentences (you can only use them once):
-and, so, but, because, when, if, however, unless, meanwhile
You also need to make sure you think about the success criteria:
-capital letters to start sentences
-punctuation at the end of every sentence . ! ?
-make your sentences more interesting by including adjectives (describing words) and adverbs (slowly, angrily, joyfully)

Week beginning 2.5.16
This week we have been asked to design some bunting to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday for a competition. Please write your name and year group on the back of the bunting.  The design can be anything you want.  You might want to research what the Queen’s favourite animals are or her favourite colours to include on your bunting.

This week in maths we have been learning about equivalent fractions. Please complete the sheet provided. Try and find some other equivalent fractions on the other page.

Week beginning 18.4.16
This week have started our poet study on Benjamin Zephaniah. For your homework I would like you to choose one his poems on the sheet provided and rehearse the poem ready to perform to the class on Tuesday. Remember you will need to use expression and different tones in your voice to interest your audience.
Some of you may like to video your performance at home. If you send it on a memory stick in a named envelope we can watch it in class and return it to you.
I don’t mind if you choose to partner up with another classmate to perform your poem together. 

Week beginning 11.4.16
This week we have been learning about human (river, mountain, forest, desert) and physical (buildings, bridges, houses) features in geography. For your homework I would like you to research one human feature and one physical feature found in the UK or Egypt.

If you do not have access to the internet at home you can go to homework club on Friday lunchtime to use the laptops there or borrow a book from the library to help you.
 
Week beginning 21.3.16
On Thursday we break up for the Easter holidays. Over the holidays I would like you to complete the Easter Reading Challenge you have been given. It's really important to make sure we are reading lots over the holidays and the activties are really fun! Children who complete the challenge will recieve a certificate and a treat.

17.3.16 This week in science we have been learning about the water cycle. Please show your learning about this in any way you wish e.g. labelled diagram, explanation writing. Please use the poster you have been given to support you to complete your work this week.

Week beginning 7.3.16
10.3.16 Last week we celebrated World Book Day in school. For your homework this week I would like you to design a book token.
 
National Book Tokens are holding a competition this year to celebrate World Book Day. To enter, you need to design your own National Book Token. A panel of judges will select a winner and runner-up in each of three age categories:
Up to 8 years
9–12 years
13–16 years
Plus, one overall winner could see their design turned into a real National Book Token and distributed to bookshops nationwide in time for Christmas!
Prizes:
The first prize for each category is; £250 National Book Tokens for the school, £100 National Book Tokens for the child and £100 National Book Tokens for the teacher.
Three runners-up will receive £150 National Book Tokens for the school, £50 book tokens for the child and £50 National Book Tokens for the teacher.
Please complete the template provided and return to school next Tuesday. Have fun!

Week beginning 29.2.16
This week we have been celebrating World Book Day. For your homework I would like you to write a character description for your favourite book character (don’t forget to tell me which book they are from). You might want to consider:
 
-why you like the character with reasons
-their personality
-what they look like
-what you say to them if you met them

This week in science we have been learning about the differences between solids, liquids and gases. For your homework I would like you to show me your understanding of this (this could also include recounting our investigation using the fizzy drinks). For your homework this week I would like you to write a sentence for each one of your weekly spellings. Make sure you show you understand the meaning of the word. You need to make sure you extend your sentences by including:
 
- adjectives (describing words)
- conjunctions e.g. and, but, because, when, if
-starting sentences in different ways e.g. Slowly, the timid girl with huge, blue eyes pushed the door opened to see what was lurking behind.
-correct punctuation . ! ? ,
-capital letters to start sentences and for names

Week beginning 1.2.16
This week in English we have been doing lots of descriptive writing. For your homework I would like you to design and draw your own dragon then write a paragraph describing it in as much detail as you can. Please try and include the following:
-adjectives
-the power of three e.g. The huge, wide and fearsome dragon
-similes e.g. His breath was as hot as fire
-expanded noun phrases e.g. The shimmering dragon with scales that glistened in the sun's light.

Enterprise homework task - Friday's assembly
Create an owl character to represent one of our BIG 6 enterprise skills. Give your owl a name and accessories to best represent them. Please use the sheet provided.

This week we have started our topic on ‘Ancient Egyptians’. For your homework I would like you to do some research on one of the following areas:
-uses of the River Nile
-pyramids
-mummies
Please present your homework and findings in any way you wish. 

Week beginning 4.1.16 
This week we have been learning about traditional poems by Charles Causley and Eleanor Farjeon. For your homework I would like you to choose one of the poems I have provided and work on learning it by heart ready to perform to the class next Tuesday afternoon. You must use good expression and a clear voice. If you wish you might also like to copy out your poem in your best handwriting and illustrate it. 

Week beginning 30.11.15
This week we have been learning about instructions in English. For your homework I would like you to write a set of instructions to teach me how to do or make something that you can already do. This could be how to make a pizza, how to play a board game etc. Here are the key features of instructions that you will need to include:
 
-How to title
-You will need list
-Instructions in order/numbered
-Time words to order e.g. first, next, after that
-Use bossy (imperative) verbs e.g. cut, glue, chop at the start of each instruction
-make sure they are clear and to the point
-include diagrams/pictures to explain the instructions

This week we have been learning about magnets in science. I would like you to show your learning in any way you wish. You might like to consider the following areas for your homework:
-magnetic and non-magnetic materials
-how magnets work
-magnet strength

Week beginning 16.11.15
This week is ‘Anti Bullying’ week. In school we have had an assembly and a lesson to raise awareness. For your homework I would like you to design a poster about anti bullying. It could be to:
-tell people what bullying is
-tell people what they should do if they are being bullied
-tell people how bullying makes children feel to stop them doing it

Week beginning 9.11.15
This week we have started our science work on ‘Forces and Magnets’ For your homework I would like you to complete the sheet provided (see the below attachments). In addition to this I would like to think of any other forces (pushes and pulls) that you might notice at home or at school.

This week we have finished our art unit that focussed on art work featuring bridges. For your homework I would like you to create your own bridge art work in any style you choose. You might want to experiment with different mediums e.g. painting, printing, drawing or collage. Have fun getting creative! 

Week beginning 19.10.15
This week your homework has a Halloween theme! We would like you to write a spooky Halloween poem. We would also like you to complete some Halloween maths problem solving. Two winners (one for their poem and one for problem solving) from each class will be chosen and awarded a prize in assembly after half term. 

Week beginning 12.10.15
This week we went on our class trip to the Waterways museum at Goole. For your homework I would like you to recount our visit and include anything that you learned and enjoyed about the day. 

Week beginning 5.10.15
This week we took part in No Pens Wednesday. This was a whole day in school where we put down our pens to develop speaking and listening in our school. This week I would like you to take part in a family quiz using the activity sheet provided to help you to improve your speaking and listening skills outside of school. Please note down what you enjoyed about the quiz and it would also be lovely if you could tell me any interesting facts you discovered. You might like to show me in your homework using photographs, pictures or a video/voice recording (this could be brought in on a USB memory stick and returned the same week). Have fun!

Week beginning 28.9.15
This week in maths we have been learning and revising the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables. For your homework I would like you to complete the sheet provided.

I would also like you to write some multiplication word problems, minimum of 4, to show your understanding along with the answers e.g. There are 7 zebras in each field. The zoo has 3 lots of fields. How many zebras do they have? 7x3=21.

Please also begin to learn these times tables by heart at home every week. Knowing the multiplication facts is extremely important and helps you in all areas of maths. 

Week beginning 21.9.15
This week we are celebrating European Languages Day. Our class will be focusing on Spain on Friday. We will be learning how to count and say the colours in Spanish as well as how to greet people. We will also be making and sampling Spanish food and making up our own Flamenco dances! For your homework please show your learning from the day. This could also include writing a recount of our day.

Week beginning 14.9.15
This week we have been reading lots of Anthony Browne books in English. For your homework I would like you to choose your favourite and complete a book review. You can borrow a book from school to take home if you need to. You can choose to present your review anyway you wish or use the book review template provided for you. 

Week beginning 7.9.15
This week in geography we have been locating the four countries of the UK on a map as well as their capital cities. For your homework I would like you to carry out some research about one of these UK capital cities (London, Edinburgh, Cardiff or Belfast).
