Our homework this week is ...

Week Beginning 6th July
This week we have started our science work on living things and their habitats. For your homework I would like you to choose a ‘mini beast’ e.g. spider, woodlouse, butterfly, newt, ladybird, frog etc to research. Please try and include information on the following areas:
-where it lives (habitat) and why it is suited to this environment
-what it eats
-appearance
-how it reproduces (life cycle)

Week Beginning 29th June
This week for homework I would like you to find out about your favourite author. You will need to research them and find out some interesting facts as well as sharing your favourite books by them. 
                                                                         
Week Beginning 22nd June
This week it was Sports Day. For your homework I would like you to recount the day in any way you wish e.g. written recount, newspaper article. Make sure you include lots of detail and illustrate it. 

Week Beginning 15th June
This week we have started our new DT topic on preparing fruit and vegetables. For your homework I would like you design a healthy dish that includes lots of fruits and vegetables and write down your recipe and ingredients. I would also like you to draw the finished dish or why not have a go at making it and take a photo for us!
-fruit or vegetable salad
-pasta dish
-vegetable pizza
-wraps
-stir fry

Week Beginning 8th June
This week we have been learning about flow charts and how they are used in explanation texts to explain how things work, are made or a process. Decide on something you would like to explain to me and use a flow chart to explain it. You need to make sure it is in order (numbers and arrows), includes pictures and writing (captions).
 
Here are some ideas to get you started:
-How do you play hopscotch?
-How do you make a pizza?
-How do you draw a cat?
It would be lovely to see some pictures of you doing these things!

Week Beginning 1st June
This week in art we have been focussing on the work of David Hockney. We have been looking at and evaluating his photo montages and collages as well as using ICT to create our own montages and collages in a similar style. Think about the techniques that you have learnt e.g. positioning, overlapping and angling then create your own collage in a similar style. This can be about anything that inspires you. Have fun and be creative!

Week Beginning 18th May
Over the last few weeks in RE you have being learning about caring for our world and the environment. Show what you have learnt in lessons and your own ideas on how you could do this. 

Week Beginning 11th May
This week we have started learning about plants in science. Show your learning from our lessons so far and add any extra learning you have done at home. 

Week Beginning 4th May
This week we have been learning about the General Election and how a democracy works. I would like you to show what you have learnt by writing a manifesto imagining you are taking part in an election to be the leader of our academy. Please complete the manifesto sheet and add any extra information on the other page e.g. campaign poster, design your own logo. 

Week Beginning 27th April
This week we have been studying Lesotho and comparing it to the UK. For your homework I would like you use what you have learnt in Geography and carry out some research of your own and compare one aspect of life in Lesotho to the UK.

Week Beginning 20th April
This week Y3 children have taken part in pedestrian skills training. For your homework I would like you to write a guide for younger children on how to keep safe near and on the road. Don’t forget to include how to keep safe on a bike and while travelling in a car and how to use different crossings. 

Week Beginning 13th April
This week we have been adding amounts of money together. We have worked on knowing the place value of each digit and using the correct £.p notation. For your homework please show what you have learnt about this using the methods we used in class. Here are some ideas:
-Imagine your kitchen cupboard is a shop and buy two things at a time and find the total
 -Go to a real shop and add up some amounts.
-Show different ways of making amounts using different coins e.g. What is the smallest number of coins you can use to make £2.56?

Week Beginning 23rd March
This week for your homework I would like you to show your learning about the Easter story from RE. Please remember to present your work carefully!

Week Beginning 16th March
This week I would like you to design a banner for the Humber School Games. Please see the sheet in your learning log for more guidance and the template you must use. You might want to plan out your banner in your learning log first.

Week Beginning 9th March
This week for your homework I would like you recount our class trip to York Railway Museum. You may present your work in any way you wish.



Week Beginning 2nd March
This week to celebrate World Book Day you will need to tell me all aout your favourite book. Have fun!

Week Beginning 23rd February
This week in history we have started learning about the history of transport. For your homework I would like you to choose a mode of transport (not a train!) e.g. bike, car, plane, boat and find out about how they have changed over time. You might also want to research who invented it. Present your work in any way you wish. 

Week Beginning 9th February
During half term it is Chinese New Year on 19th February. For your homework I would like you to research an aspect of Chinese New Year and present your findings. This could be through art work, a fact file or the story of how the each year is named after a different animal. Have fun!



Week Beginning 2nd February
This week in Literacy we have been reading Indian folktales. For your homework I would like you to choose either ‘Tiger Child’ or ‘Rama and Sita’ and retell the story in your own words. You will also need to illustrate your story. Remember we have also been learning about prepositions e.g. The next day, during the night, in the deep forest so it would be great if you used these in your story!

Week Beginning 26th January
This week we have continued to learn about electricity in science. For your homework I would like you to show what you have learnt about electricity. Remember to use scientific language (e.g. cell/battery), include information about uses of electricity, how to stay safe and our investigation on circuits. 

Week Beginning 19th January
This week we have been writing riddles about fruit and vegetables. To show what you have learnt about the features of riddles, I would like you to write a new riddle. You can choose any object or thing you like. It could be a space ship, hot air balloon, alien or an iron! 

Week Beginning 12th January
This week we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. For your homework show what you have learnt. You might want to draw everyday objects that you find in your house and name them. 

Week Beginning 1st December
This week in maths we have been learning how to measure accurately in cm. Please show your learning by measuring different things in your house to the nearest cm or half cm. You might even need to measure in metres! You could draw the object then record the length. You could even find the difference between different objects! 



Week Beginning 24th November
This week we are starting our topic ‘Brrr!’. For your homework I would like you to research penguins. You might like to choose one type of penguin or penguins in general. You can present your work in any way you wish e.g. power point, a report etc. 



Week Beginning 17th November
This week I would like you to research one of the countries we have being looking at in Literacy (France, USA, Kenya, Japan or Alaska). You need to think about what life is like for children there. Here are some things you might want to research:
-school life
-home life
-hobbies and activities for children
-food



Week Beginning 10th November
This week is was Remembrance day. I would like you to produce a piece of poppy art work using any medium or materials you like. 



Week Beginning 3rd November
This week in literacy we have been writing instructions. For your homework I would like you to write your own set of instructions. This could be for anything you like and feel free to be as imaginative as you like! You could tell me how to play football, ride a dragon or catch a witch! Don’t forget to include a ‘what you will need’ section and some diagrams. 

Week Beginning 20th October
This week for your homework I would like you to show your understanding of multiplication and division by creating some of your own word problems and solving them. You can illustrate them using pictures to help show how you would solve them. Please write the number sentence underneath when solving it.
E.g. Harry had 12 cakes. If he shared them between 3 of his friends how many would they have each?
12÷3=4

Week Beginning 13th October
Lion Learners Competition
We would like the children to take part in this competition.
Lion Learners would like children to create a creature.  Children need to use their imaginations to draw a picture of a brand new creature.  They must also tell us whether their animal is a mammal, reptile, amphibian, bird or fish, and why!  The winning entrant from all national entries will receive an hour long workshop for their class.  
The competition is open to all primary schools, and the closing date is 31st October 2014. We will post entries on your behalf.
There are 5 x 1 hour animal handling sessions to be won. Winners names will be posted on facebook or can be obtained by emailing  rachael@lionlearners.co.uk This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  after the closing date.  

Week Beginning 6th October
This week I would like you to complete a book review on an Anthony Browne book we have read in school or one you have read at home. You can present this in any way you wish but you may also use the template provided. 


Week Beginning 29th September
This week in science we have started learning about 'Seasonal Changes'. Please show your learning about the different seasons in anyway you wish.


Week Beginning 22nd September
This week it is European Languages Day. For your homework this week I would like you to show what you have learnt in French this week. We have worked on greetings, saying our name, colours, French artists etc. You could also show me what else you can say in French e.g. numbers. Make sure you illustrate your work to make it look exciting! Have fun! 



Week Beginning 8th September
This week we have been learning all about teeth. We have learnt the names for the different teeth, the different parts of the tooth and how to keep our teeth healthy. Show what you have learnt in any way you wish. This could be a poster, fact file, information text etc. Please present your work well and add pictures to make it interesting. Have fun!


Week beginning 15th September 
This week we have been looking at and performing lots of different poetry. For your homework I would like you to select your favourite poem and tell me why you like it. You could also find out some information about the poet who wrote it. You need to be ready to perform the poem to the rest of the class so make sure you practise!
