Week beginning 14.10.13
in literacy this week our work will focus on 'The Gingerbread Man'. We will continue to discuss the good and bad characters within the story. We will also be doing more story sequencing (lots of children finding this tricky). Then we will design and label our own Gingerbread Man. During independent learning we will be making mask, making chain gingerbread men and playing story bingo. Some children might also choose to design the Gingerbread man a new outfit in our sewing shop!
in math's this week our mental starters will continue to focus on length. We will also revisit pattern and 2D shape. Our main teaching will be based on number sequencing and ordering, number formation and addition. Independent tasks will involve adding dominoes and ordering Gingerbread Men.
Week beginning 7.10.13
In literacy this week we will be reading the traditional story of 'The Billy Goats Gruff' we will be discussing what we like and dislike about the characters and giving reasons why. We will also be role playing the story and our independent learning will involve making masks from the story and sequencing the story.
In math's we will be focusing on number formation and addition in our mental starters. The main sessions will be around length. We will be comparing and measuring lengths and distances using non standard units and then introducing the standard measurement on 1 metre. We will be set challenges to find things longer and shorter than 1 metre. In our role play area we are going to have a sewing shop where we can design, measure and make clothing.
Our creative work this week will be based on the work of the artist Hunderwasser. We will look at the different lines and colour which he uses in his work.
We will also be singing and dancing to our harvest songs.
Week beginning 1.10.13
In literacy this week we will continue to focus on the traditional tale of 'The Three little Pigs' We will be making individual story maps and mountains.
In phonics this week we will be focusing on tricky words, adding sound buttons to words, learning new sounds and trying to quick write words with the sounds which we have learnt.
In math's we will continue to work on shape in our mental starters in particular pentagons and hexagons. Then during the main teaching sessions we will be learning how to record addition calculations. We will try and remember to record the biggest number first and then count on.
Our creative curriculum work will focus on our harvest work. We will continue to learn our new songs and dances and we will have a go at making either a paper plate scarecrow or a paper bag scarecrow. Lots of messy fun!
