We are continuing our work on autobiographies this week, looking at another character's view of events and in the slightly different setting of a magazine article. Children will then act out and write down some statements of facts from the events described by both characters.

Maths - MONEY WEEK
In maths this week we will be looking at how we spend our money and exploring budgeting. The children will look at money spending activities such as costing making a sandwich linked to our healthy eating work. We will also have a special guest working with us on Tuesday to work on a very special topic!

Week commencing 6th June 2016

We start a new unit this week called 'All About Me.' The unit looks at autobiographies and the different ways in which we can present information about ourselves. The children learn the different ways, such as blogging, through studying characters from familiar fairy tales. At the end of the week, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's birthday, the children will look at highlights from the Queen's life and look at how best to present information from some or all of the events.

Maths:
In maths this week the children will look again at decimals; their equivalent to fractions, what decimal to add to get to the next whole number and placing decimals in order using place value skills. The children will then progress to rounding to the nearest tenth and hundredth.
On Friday, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's birthday, the children will have to complete investigations using numbers relevant to the Queen. This could be finding consecutive numbers that total 90 (the Queen's age) or using the digits from her year of birth (1926) to investigate place value.

Week commencing 23rd May 2016
English:

Maths:
In maths this week we are recapping our work on Roman Numerals and creating a snakes and ladders game using these numerals so we can better understand where our number system came from. Then we will progress onto studying area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes, challenging ourselves to find relationships between area and perimeter.

Week commencing 16th May 2016
English:
After completing writing our formal letters last week, we will be writing an informal letter in character this week. We will use our work from history, Ancient Greece, to inform us about the life of an Ancient Greek soldier and write home as if we were that soldier. Then, we will work on writing a reply to the letter, making sure we answer all the questions and ask about things we might want to know!

The children will then write a formal letter to their favourite author, using their questions and new formal letter writing skills.

Maths:

By the end of the week the children will also have written a letter in character from one of the books we are studying.
