We will begin this term with a mini-topic, exploring the Arctic and Antarctic. We will explore the environments and the animals that live there. We will also explore melting and freezing, liquids and solids through different ice activities.
Our big topic this term will be about space. We will be looking at the planets in the solar system, rockets and astronauts.
In maths we will be rote counting to 100 and comparing and ordering numbers to 20. We will be estimating numbers of objects and images and learning that teen numbers are 10 plus some more. We will begin to count in 2s and to recognise odd and even numbers. The children will be introduced to doubling and halving through practical activities.
We will explore pattern, symmetry and 2d and 3d shapes. We will be comparing lengths, heights and weights.
We will be listening to a wide range of stories, writing for lots of different purposes and learning how to construct a simple sentence. We will be exploring vocabulary and types of words and phrases (verbs, nouns, prepositions and describing words.)
In phonics we will be learning to read and write sentences containing phase 3 phonemes and tricky words including 2-syllable words.
In PE our focus will be object control. We will be learning to control a wide range of objects by pushing, patting, throwing, catching or kicking with control. We will also continue to practise balance and moving in different ways through dance and using apparatus.
Our PSHE work is based on ‘Dreams and Goals’ and includes goal-setting, aspirations and working together.
