This week we are learning...

Week commencing  14.7.14

This week we will be focussing on our Puppet DT project. We will be carrying out focused practical tasks, designing our puppet and making it this week.

We will also be doing athletics outside and playing boccia in indoor PE. 

Week commencing 7.7.14

On Monday it is our transition morning. Striped Owls will be spending the morning with Mrs Greaves ready for next year!

In Literacy this week we will be writing recounts and postcards to tell everyone what happened on our trip to Cleethorpes on Tuesday.

In Maths we are learning to make number bonds to 100 and we will be revising place value in 2 and 3 digit numbers.

In DT we will be starting our puppet topic. We will start to investigate different types of puppets and their uses. 

Week commencing 30.6.14

In Literacy this week we are starting a new unit of work on familiar settings. We will be reading the book 'Dolphin Boy' by Micheal Morpurgo. We will be writing questions to ask the characters, making predictions about what will happen and hot seating the main character Jim to find out more about him. 

In Maths we will be learning about multiplication and division. We will also be comparing two digit numbers. 

In Music we will be creating our own seaside 'sound postcards' using a range of un-tuned percussion instruments. 

Week commencing 23.6.14

In Literacy we are continuing our work on explanation texts. We will be writing a glossary to show our understanding of new vocabulary related to human teeth. We will also be researching how sharks eat and breathe to help us when we write our own explanation text at the end of the week.

In Maths we are learning to find the difference when subtracting. We will also be solving multiplication and division by counting on in steps of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. Keep practising your times tables at home!

In History we will be be continuing to find out about seaside holidays in the past of comparing them to seaide holidays today.



Week commencing 16.6.14

In Literacy we are starting a new unit on explanation texts. We will be reading lots of non-fiction texts on sharks with a focus on shark and human teeth. We will be writing questions and finding the answers using the texts; using glossaries to find the meaning of words and collecting new vocabulary.



In Maths we will be learning how to find missing numbers in multipications using division and also learning to tell the time to the nearest 5 minute interval. 



We are starting our history work this week on seaside holidays in the past. We will be using photographs to help us with our work. 



Week commencing 9.6.14

In Literacy we will be planning and writing our own humorous story based on 'Penny Dreadful and the Rat'. We will also be learning about adverbs and how to use apostrophes for contraction. 

In Maths we will be learning about multiplication. We will be focusing on the 3 times table and using arrays to solve multiplication.  

In Science we will be learning about shells and why animas have them.  



Week commencing 2.6.14

In Literacy this week we will be using the longer stories we have been reading over the last couple of weeks to write instructions using the text and we will also be writing an advert for Armitage's rocket boots!

In Maths we will be learning to subtract 2 digit numbers using different methods, using pound and pence notation when working with money and solving money problems in context. 

On Wednesday we have a very special shadow puppet workshop in school that will be delivered by 2021 Visual Arts Centre. Children will create their own seaside themed shadow puppet show!

Week commencing 19.5.14

In Literacy we are continuing our unit on longer stories. This week we will be reading 'Penny Dreadful and the Rat' by Joanna Nadin. We will be comparing this to our story from last week; exploring the characters in the story and re-telling the story in detail. 

In Maths we are learning to double and half two digit numbers. We will also be learning about fractions this week when we find 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3 of numbers and amounts. 

In Science this week we are learning about the similarities and differences between humans and fish, the life processes of living things and the different parts of a fish and what they are for. 



Week commencing 12.5.14

In Literacy we are starting a new unit of work on longer stories. This week we will be reading the humorous story The Whole Truth by Joanna Nadin. We will be exploring the characters in the story and using role play to understand the story in more detail.

In Maths we are learning to read scales when finding the capacity of containers and the weight of items. We will also be using ICT to create block graphs. 



In Geography we will be learning about the human and physical features of the seaside and comparing this to Crowle.

Week commencing 5.5.14

In Literacy we will be reading poems about the seaside and writing our own poems about a trip to the seaside using our senses. 



In Maths we will be adding two digit numbers using partitioning and multiplying and dividing whole numbers by 10.

In Geography we will be starting our seaside topic. We will be using maps and atlases to locate seaside places and carrying out a survey to find out which seaside places are most popular in our class. 



Week commencing 28.4.14

In Literacy we are starting a new poetry unit of work called 'Really Looking'.  We will be reading a variety of sea poems during the week. We will be comparing poems, identifying rhyming strings, writing questions and creating a class poem. 



In Maths we will be learning how to use doubles and number facts to help solve addition, working on number bonds to 20 and 100 and solving subtraction by finding the difference. 

In Art we will be creating observational drawings of shells using different media and we will also be working in the style of J Vincent Scarpace to produce fish drawings. 



Week commencing 21.4.14

In literacy we will be writing poems about the sea. We will be using sea images to generate our ideas then using these to help us write. 



In maths we are learning to read and recognise larger numbers and ordering them on number lines. We will also be counting on/back in 10s and 1s to add/subtract 2 digit numbers. 

In art will be creating our own seascapes using a range of different media.
