This week we are learning about...

14.7.14

We have an exciting start to the week, involving cooking for our DT project. We shall also be rounding up our work on coasts by making some persuasive leaflets. At the end of the week, our main focus will be completing the work on memory skills.

7.7.14
This week we shall be focussing on area and perimeter in maths. In Literacy we shall be using all of our knowledge on coastal erosion to write some explanation texts. At the end of the week we will be writing a biography and learning more about fractions.

30.6.14
We shall be continuing to learn about time at the start of the week, in particular the 24 hour clock and solving time problems. In Literacy we shall be analysing explanation texts and verbally explaining processes to our Y2 buddies. At the end of the week we will be writing a recount and learning more about fractions.

23.6.14
At the start of the week we shall be focussing on time in maths. We will be continuing to learn about apostrophes for possession in Literacy, and will be collecting information about coastal erosion to prepare for writing explanations. At the end of the week in Literacy we will be doing our reading comprehension and finishing our persuasive writing. In Numeracy we will be continuing to problem solve.


16.6.14

At the beginning of the week we shall be focussing on measuring capacity in maths. In Literacy we shall be focussing on the use of apostrophes and also using ICT texts to research information. At the end of the week in Literacy we will be doing our reading comprehension and finishing our persuasive writing. In Numeracy we will be continuing to problem solve.

9.6.14
We shall be continuing to study the book 'Christophe's Story' in Literacy at the beginning of the week, and focussing on decimals in Numeracy. At the end of the week in Literacy we will be doing our reading comprehension and writing persuasively . In Numeracy we will be solving problems.

2.6.14
At the start of the week we shall be beginning reading the book 'Christophe's Story' by Nicki Cornwell. At the end of the week in Literacy we will be doing an Unsupported Write and some reading comprehension.

At the start of the week we shall be answering questions about graphs, before moving on to collecting, organising and sharing data. At the end of the week in Numeracy we will be working on multiplication and division.

At the start of the week in Numeracy we will be focussing on negative numbers in the context of temperature. Later on we will be using written methods to multiply. In Literacy we shall be typing up our information texts using Publisher. Later on in the week for Big Write we will be writing persuasive letters.

12.5.14
At the beginning of the week we will be creating our own planets which will be our writing inspiration for the following Literacy sessions. In Numeracy we will be focussing on place value and counting in different steps.

At the end of the week in Literacy we will be doing reading comprehensions and Big Write. In Numeracy we will be problem solving using addition and subtraction.

5.5.14
We shall be continuing our topic on information texts at the start of the week, and will be looking at how they are structured and the language used. In Numeracy we shall be investigating multiplication tables. At the end of the week in Literacy, we will be writing stories. In Numeracy, we will be using mental and written methods to subtract.


28.4.14
On Monday we shall begin a new Literacy topic on information texts. In maths we shall be focussing on 2d and 3d shapes, and revisiting area and perimeter. At the end of the week in Literacy, we will be completing reading comprehensions and writing poetry. In numeracy we will be adding and subtracting.

21.4.14
On Wednesday we shall be jumping back into learning with our DT topic 'Moving Pictures'! If you have a great book with moving parts or pop ups, I would really appreciate it if you could bring this in for us to look at.

On Thursday and Friday, we will be starting our new SEAL topic about Relationships and writing our own playscripts.


31.3.14
At the beginning of the week we will  be continuing to focus on fractions in Numeracy, and in Literacy we will be learning how to write a playscript. At the end of the week in Literacy we will be tackling reading comprehensions. In Numeracy we will finish our work on division and probability.


24.3.14
We are excited about performing our play on Thursday, and are ready for the Dress  Rehearsal on Tuesday.

At the start of the week we shall be revisiting area and perimeter, before moving on to look a t fractions. In Literacy we shall be looking at the features of playscripts, and role playing parts of the story 'Journey' to turn into a play. At the end of the week in Literacy we are ready to start writing our story openings after generating some amazing vocabulary which left Mrs.Greaves feeling astounded! In Numeracy we will be working on probability and division.

17.3.14

At the start of the week we will begin writing our own stories inspired by the book 'Journey'. We will continue to investigate homophones in our spelling work. In Numeracy at the start of the week we shall be looking at coordinate grids, and carrying out a maths mission!

At the end of the week, we will be choosing words for effect to describe a journey to another planet in our Big Write. In Numeracy, we will be continuing our work on written methods for division.

We are also having lots of rehearsals to get ready for our concert 'Joseph and his amazing technicolour dreamcoat.


10.3.14

This week we shall be retelling the story 'Journey', then using it as a stimulus to plan our own fantasy stories. We shall also be investigating homophones. In Numeracy we shall be focussing on angles, position and direction.

At the end of the week, we will be tackiling reading comprehension and enjoying a Literacy Space themed day! In numeracy, we will continue working on division.

3.3.14
Another busy week ahead!  

At the beginning of the week we shall be learning about area and perimeter in Numeracy. In Literacy we shall be  further exploring the book 'Journey'  and using it as a stimulus for writing setting descriptions, and learning more about adverbs.  It is also Climate Change Week so we shall be taking part in the 'one hour challenge'.  Indoor PE will be on Tuesday afternoon this week, not Monday.

At the end of the week in Literacy we will be planning and writing a Big Write. In Numeracy we will be learning written methods for division.


24.2.14
At the start of the week we shall begin a new Literacy topic on the picture book 'Journey by Aaron Becker. In Numeracy we shall be measuring lengths using appropriate equipment, and measuring in cm and mm, On Thursday, we will see the return of 'Skip4Life' - I wonder how many of us have improved our skipping skills? Also on Thursday we will be taking part in Orienteering activities  at The Axholme Academy. On Friday, we will be taking part in some activities linked to our SEAL theme 'Good to be me.'

At the end of the week in Literacy, we will be tackling reading comprehension and in Numeracy, we will be finishing our work on written methods of multiplication.



10.2.14
On Monday we are going on a trip to the 20 21 art gallery and North Lincolnshire mueum.

We shall be learning about different ways to start sentences this week, and completing our Anansi tales. In Numeracy we shall complete our work on Data Handling, by looking at scales and using ICT. At the end of the week we will be writing a diary entry in Literacy and in Numeracy, continuing our work on multiplication.

3.2.14
We shall begin the week with planning and writing our own Anansi story, and also focus on how to write direct speech. At the end of the week we will be doing some reading comprehension and writing persuasively.

In maths we shall be setting our own lines of enquiry, and then presenting our findings in different ways, such as Venn diagrams, tally charts and bar graphs. At the end of the week we will be multiplying using written methods.

27.1.14
We shall continue to explore stories about the mischievous spider Anansi at the beginning of the week. At the end of the week we will be doing some reading comprehension and writing instructions.

In Numeracy we shall begin the week by looking at patterns in the multiplication tables, completing inverse sentences and solve word problems. At the end of the week we will be multiplying by 10 and 100 and adding and subtracting using a written method.


20.1.14
In Literacy at the start of the week we shall be reading stories from different cultures. At the end of the week we will be doing some reading comprehension and writing an adventure story.

In Numeracy at the start of the week we shall be looking at patterns within the times tables, doubling and halving. At the end of the week we will be multiplying by 10 and 100 and adding and subtracting using a written method.


7.1.14
On the first day back, we will be participating in activities related to the SEAL theme Going for Goals. We shall also begin our exciting topic 'The Amazing Aztecs!'

In Literacy on Tuesday and Wednesday we will begin to read poems about winter. On Thursday and Friday we will be doing reading comprehension and writing poems in Big Write.

In Numeracy on Tuesday and Wednesday we shall be focusing on properties of 2D shape. On Thursday and Friday we will be using decimal notation with measures (m and cm).
