Summer Term 2
Week beginning 5th July
Literacy- in our lessons we shall be developing our skills of debating and writing persuasive texts.
Numeracy- Year 4 children will be consolidating their understanding of tenths and hundredths and writing their decimal equivalences. Year 5 shall be looking at percentages.
Week beginning 29th June
Literacy-we shall be planning and writing non chronological reports, in the style of Arthur Spiderwick's field guide. In spelling we are continuing to learn the statutory word lists.
Numeracy- we shall be focussing on multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100, and also negative numbers.
Week beginning 22nd June
Literacy- this week we shall look at a new book (which shall be revealed during the week) and we shall also look at subordinating conjunctions. We are focussing in spelling on the statutory words.
Numeracy- in Numeracy we shall be creating bar charts and line graphs, and investigating coordinates and translations. The Y5 children shall also explore cube numbers and imperial measures.
Week beginning 15th June
Literacy- we shall complete 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' and then move on to planning and writing an additional chapter. We shall also revise fronted adverbials.
Numeracy- we shall be focussing on the properties of number (multiples, factors and square numbers) and also time.
Week beginning 8th June
Literacy- we shall continue to read our novel 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' and complete related drama and writing activities this week. We shall also be learning about relative clauses.
Numeracy- this week we will be focussing on angles- sorting, comparing and measuring. The Year 5 children shall also learn how to calculate missing angles in a triangle, on a straight line and around a point, and the Year 4 children will revisit symmetry.
Week beginning 1st June
Literacy- Really looking forward to delving into our new novel, 'The Spiderwick Chronicles'. We shall also be focussing on modal verbs.
Numeracy- We shall be focussing on fractions and shape.
Summer Term 1
Week beginning 18th May
Literacy - We will conclude our explanation unit by researching and giving a presentation about volcanoes.
Numeracy - We will be complete our work on volume and also look at adding and subtracting fractions.
Week beginning 11th May
Literacy - We will continue with our work on explanation texts, reading texts and finding features. We will continue to link our work to Volcanoes.
Numeracy - We will revise area and perimeter and also learn about volume.
Week beginning 5th May
Literacy - We will begin our new topic on explanation texts. We will be linking this to our geography work on volcanoes.
Numeracy - Y5 will focus on fractions (adding and subtracing them) and Y4 will focus on fractions and decimals.
Week beginning 27th April
Literacy - We will continue with our poetry unit, begin our rehearsals for the play and also write our own poem.
Numeracy - Y5 will be focusing on fractions and Y4 will be focusing on fractions, decimals and measures.
Week beginning 20th April
Literacy - We will continue our poetry work on 'Cats'.
Numeracy - Data (bar and line graphs) and then methods and the application of methods.
Week beginning 14th April
Literacy - We will begin our poetry unit on 'Cats'.
Numeracy - We will focus on data - presenting and interpreting.
Week beginning 23rd March
A week with a difference - on Monday we will have our 'Big Talk' session. Y5 will also be preparing for their cycle theory tests. From Wednesday, some children will be heading to Caythorpe Court whilst the remaining children will spend the three days with Mrs Hotchin's working on a project in school.
Week beginning 16th March
Literacy - We will continue our work on FArTHER. We will be study the pictures in more depth and also write the story from a different point of view.
Numeracy - Fractions
Week beginning 9th March
Literacy - We will complete our work on non-chronological reports and then begin our new topic on fictional book: Farther.
Numeracy - factors, prime numbers, measures and data.
Week beginning 2nd March
Literacy - We will be writing our non-chronological reports on Victorian bikes.
Numeracy - Fractions and decimals.
Week beginning 23rd February
Literacy - We will begin our new topic on Non-Chronological reports and will be focussing on reading reports, summarising what we have read and finding the key features.
Numeracy - We will be learning about co-ordinates, position and direction.
Week beginning 9th February
In Literacy we shall be drawing close to the end of Street Child and will be focussing on the character's journey through discussion and drama; we shall also be practising using relative clauses. In Numeracy we will be focussing on division.
Week beginning 2nd February
In Literacy we shall be focussing on character description and using conjunctions and relative clauses. In Numeracy we shall be practising multiplication and division methods.
Week beginning 26th January
We shall be continuing to read 'Street Child', exploring the main character's issues through drama and writing diary entries. In Numeracy we shall be focussing on area ad perimeter.
Week beginning 19th January
In Literacy we shall begin to read 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty, a novel about a Victorian Child. We shall also be looking at using conjunctions in sentences. In Numeracy we shall be consolidating using written methods, and focussing on how to use different ways to check our answers.
Week beginning 12th January
This week we shall be looking at various poems by Grace Nichols and James Carter. In Numeracy we will be focussing on Roman Numerals and negative numbers.
Week beginning 5th January
We shall be focussing on the SEAL topic 'Going for Goals' and thinking about what characteristics we need to be a successful learner. We shall be learning about how to use apostrophes to mark possession in English. In Numeracy we shall be rounding numbers.
Week beginning 8th December
We will be beginning a mini topic titled Brrrrr! this week. In this topic, we shall focus on the arctic climate and animals that live there.
In Numeracy we shall be focussing on measures- weighing and capacities. We shall also be looking at how to convert measures.
Week beginning 1st December
Literacy - We will be writing the story of The Dream Giver, and making sure we use fronted adverbials to make our sentences more interesting.
Numeracy - We will be looking at angles and using protractors.
Week beginning 24th November
Literacy - Starting our new 'Fantasy worlds' topic. We will study film clips of settings from fantasy worlds and begin our study of the Dreamgiver.
Numeracy - Shape and symmetry.
Week beginning 17th November
Literacy - Our final week on newspapers, this week we will be writing our own newspaper articles.
Numeracy - Looking at the relationship between fractions and decimals, and also a focus on measures (mass and capacity).
Week beginning 10th November
Literacy - Continuing our work on journalistic writing, this week we will have an indepth look at the features of newspapers.
Numeracy - fractions, factors and multiples.
Week beginning 3rd November
Literacy - We will begin our new topic on journalistic writing, focusing this week on reading and feature finding.
Numeracy - Multiplication and fractions.
Week beginning 20th October
This week is 'Trench Week!' We will be focusing most of our learning on our WWI topic. This will include studying photographs, conducting research, creating PowerPoint presentations, hot-seating and letter writing.
On Friday we will be doing some Halloween Maths!
Week beginning 13th October
Literacy - Our second week on poetry, this week we will be working in groups to read and perform poems with expression. We will also be writing and illustrating our own poems.
Numeracy - Our main focus will be methods of written subtraction.
Week beginning 6th October
Literacy - We begin our new topic - poetry. We will be reading poems and learning about the techniques poets use including personification, similes and metaphors.
Numeracy - Time: Telling the time and time durations.
Week beginning 29th September
Literacy - This week we will be continuing to write our own 'Iron Man' stories. We will also be writing poetry on Thursday to mark National Poetry Day. (Don't forget your keepsake!)

Literacy - We will complete the story of the Iron Man. We will do some drama work and retell the story.
Numeracy - Place value in decimals, multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100, and doubling and halving.

Literacy - Continuing our work on Iron Man, we will be focusing on character description, exploring language and structure.
Numeracy - Times tables, mental addition and subtraction.
Week Beginning 8th September
Literacy - We will begin our work on Iron Man looking at effective language choices and character feelings. We will do some drama work relating to the opening of the text.
