This week we will be learning about ...

Week beginning 20th July


It's our final week! Please join us for on Tuesday morning for our final assembly.

Week beginning 13th July
DT - we will be testing and making dips this week.
Geography - we will be finishing our geography topic on rainforests this week.

Week beginning 6th July

It's push- up day on Monday - don't forget to go straight to The Axholme Academy, you will need to be in school uniform; you need to have your PE kit with you and you need money for your lunch or a packed lunch.

This week we will be having a science and geography week, we will be starting our new science topic on plants. We will also be rehearsing for our leavers assembly - it's all go!




Week beginning 28.6.15

 Another fun packed week this week. We will have the final rehearsal for our play on Monday. On Tuesday we will be taking part in a court case, obviously a re-enactment, at Scunthorpe Magistrates Court. On Wednesday we will be performing our play to the whole school in the morning, and to our friends and family at night, followed by a morning performance on Thursday. 




Week beginning 22.6.15
It's a very busy week this week!

We are now working hard preparing for our play 'Join Disney'. Much time is being spent learning lines, songs and practising. We will also be getting costumes and scenery prepared.

On Tuesday it's Sports Day, so we will be busy all day enjoying wonderful sporting activities.

On Thursday we are going to The Baths Hall for a 'Nick Sharratt Draw along' morning, which should be very exciting!

On Friday we are going to Alton Towers for our Y6 treat, this should be a fabulous day.







Week beginning 15.6.15

Literacy - we will be starting a fabulous new book this week - Owls Our Most Enchanting Bird. This book has wonderful description and we will be using it as a stimulus for our own writing.

Numeracy - we will be problem solving this week.

Week beginning 8.6.15

 Numeracy - shapes this week, as well as time work.

Literacy - We will be exploring the graphic novel 'Salamander Dream' by Hope Larson.

Week beginning 1.6.15

Numeracy - fractions this week; we will be extending our skills to include addition, subtraction and maybe a little multiplication and division!

Literacy - We will begin with an investigation of our new book, I'm going to keep which book we are reading a secret, until we start on Monday!


Week beginning 18.5.15

Literacy - we will conclude our work around 'There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom' this week.

Numeracy - problem solving this week!.


Week beginning 11.5.15

Well it's final here - SATs week. You need to remember how hard you've worked, how well you are doing and how much you can achieve! This week you need to have lots of exercise and plenty of sleep.  Good luck. 


Week beginning 5.5.15

It's election week this week! We will be holding our own elections in class- including writing manifestos, making election promises and then voting for the party we think should be elected!

Literacy - this week we will be looking at the changes in Bradley and how the other characters in the book respond to these changes.

Numeracy - revising line graphs, pie charts,fractions, decimals and percentages. We will also have an extended maths surgery on Friday.




Week beginning 27th April

Literacy - we will continue to fill our journals as Bradley, reviewing how he is changing along the way.

Numeracy - percentages and shape revision this week.

Week beginning 21st April

?Literacy -We will be continuing reading 'There's a boy in the girl's bathroom' and will be writing a letter to Jeff about his friendship with Bradley.

Numeracy - we will be revising algebra this week.






Week beginning 14th April 

Literacy - we will be starting our new book 'There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom' by Louis Sachar. this week and exploring the character of Bradley. 

Numeracy - this week we will be revising fractions and units of measure. 

Week beginning 23rd March

A week with a difference this week. Tomorrow we will have our 'Big Talk'. Then on Wednesday the majority of Eagle Owls will head to Caythorpe court for a fun filled few days. The Eagle Owls left behind will also be having a fun filled few days; but their activities are  a surprise! 


Week beginning 16th March

Literacy - we will be continuing to read The Water Tower, and comparing the two main characters.

Numeracy - we will be reading and writing coordinates in all four quadrants and translating shapes this week.

Week Beginning 9th March

Literacy - we will be discovering The Water Tower by Gary Crew this week.
Numeracy - Data handling this week, looking closely at pie charts.




Week beginning 2nd March

Literacy - we will be continuing our work on inventions, and we will begin planning a news article to explain why a particular invention is important.

Numeracy - Data handling this week, we will have a specific focus on interpretation of line graphs. We will also be revising shape.




Week beginning 23rd February

Literacy - we will be starting a very exciting unit of work called 'Amazing Inventions', where we will be trying to answer a very difficult question -  What do you think the greatest invention is?

Numeracy - Shape work this week. We will be calculating internal angles of quadrilaterals and calculating area and perimeter. 




Week beginning 9th February

Literacy - we will be finishing our work on 'Street Child' this week.

Numeracy - percentages, decimals and fractions this week, as well as shape revision.

Week beginning 2nd February


Literacy - we will be continuing our work on 'Street Child'. This week we will be focusing on writing in role, adding emotion to our work and exploring how the character feels.

Numeracy - we will be working with ratio this week. We will also revise brackets and problem solving.

Week beginning 26th January

Literacy - we will be continuing our work on 'Street Child'. As part of this work we will be writing in character as we explain how the children felt when they were asked to leave their home.

Numeracy - we will be working with coordinates in all four quadrants this week as we translate, rotate and reflect shapes.



Week beginning 19th January

It's finally arrived! We will be performing as part of the Young Voices choir, at Sheffield Arena on Monday evening.

Numeracy - more fractions, decimals and percentages this week. We will also be revising written methods of multiplication and division and revising area and perimeter.

Literacy - we will be starting our work on 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty this week. It's a novel about the life of a Victorian child and is based on the true story of the orphan who inspired Doctor Barnardo to set up his famous children's refuge. We will also be completing work on synonyms and antonyms and revising apostrophe use.
Week beginning 12th January

Numeracy - fractions , decimals and percentages this week, as well as quick revision sessions on area, measurement and triangles.

Literacy - poetry this week, we will be focusing on imagery and exploring different language patterns.

We will be sharing our Young Voices songs with the residents of Green Acres on Friday, which should good fun.


Week beginning 8th December

Numeracy - we will be revising place value and multiplying decimals this week.

Literacy - this will be linked to our Brrr topic. Using our report writing skills we will be investigating polar bears and then writing a report.

Week beginning 1st December

Numeracy - we will continue our data handling this week.

Literacy - we will be writing and editing our stories this week.

Week beginning 24th November

It's Christmas art day on Thursday, a fabulous day full of art and craft activities.

Numeracy - we will be data handling this week.

Literacy - after a fabulous week exploring 'The Mysteries of Harris Burdick' we will be choosing one of the illustrations as a stimulation for story writing.

Week beginning 17th November

Literacy - we will be exploring 'The Mysteries of Harris Burdick' by Chris Van Allsburg this week.

Numeracy - we will continue our fractions work this week, and we will also be reviewing area and perimeter.

Science - we are starting our Evolution topic this week. Please can you bring a photograph of yourself and either a photograph of a parent or grandparent. Thank you.


Week beginning 10th November

Literacy - we will be continuing our poetry work, including writing our own poems.
Numeracy - we will be working with negative numbers and fractions this week.

Week beginning 3rd November


Literacy - this week we will be looking at poems by Ted Hughes and working on similes.
Numeracy - it's decimals all the way this week, we will be multiplying and dividing whilst problem solving, tricky stuff but we should be fabulous.

Week beginning 27th October

It's half term! I hope you have a super week off, don't forget to log onto Bug Club and Active learn during the wee.

Week beginning 20th October

Literacy - finishing our reports on volcanoes so we can warn the people of Pompeii
Numeracy - probability and problem solving this week


Week beginning 13th October
Literacy - we will be continuing our exploration of Pompeii and discussing volcanoes. We will be working in groups to discuss what happened in Pompeii and writing about the residents of Pompeii
Numeracy - this week we will be focusing on shapes and the properties of shape

Homework over half term will require a box so start saving cereal boxes or shoe boxes now.

Week beginning 6th October

Literacy - we will be starting a new non-fiction unit this week. We will be discovering Pompeii and discussing Volcanoes!
Numeracy - this week we will be working with negative numbers and working on our problem solving skills.


Week beginning 29th September

Literacy - we will be completing our animal stories to share with Mrs Pearce's children. It's national poetry day on Thursday, please remember to bring your keepsake in.
Numeracy - we will be working with angles and triangles this week as well as keeping our division skills topped up.
School council vote - don't forget to complete your manifesto so you can be counted on Thursday afternoon!


Week beginning 22nd September
Literacy - we have finished 'Eye of the Wolf' and we will now be completing writing tasks based around the story. These will involve us looking at the story from a different view point.

Numeracy - it's area and perimeter work this week. To keep us on our toes we will be completing tables speed tests and reviewing our multiplication skills.

It's a busy week this week - on Monday we will be competing in a cross country event at The Axholme Academy. It's our Inspire on Thursday and we will be taking part in a language celebration at The Axholme Academy on Friday!


Week beginning 15th September
This week we will be continuing our work on 'Eye of the Wolf' by Daniel Pennac. We will finish reading the story and begin to complete writing tasks based around specific elements of the story.
In numeracy we will be working with decimals again. This time we are adding and subtracting them and later in the week we will be multiplying and dividing, tricky but fun!
Art - we will continue our poppy watercolours, the work so far is stunning!!! We will have them out on display when finished and would love for you to come and see them. Bev will send a text with the date.
Wednesday is Enterprise day!!

Week Beginning 8th September
This week we will begin our work on 'Eye of the Wolf' by Daniel Pennac focusing on feelings and the authors use of sentence structure.
Numeracy - we will be reviewing place value and working with decimals.
Art - will will start our art topic by working with water colours.
