Week beginning 11.7.16
On Monday the year 2 children will be taking part in a wedding at St. Oswald's church as part of their RE work on Celebrations.
This week we are learning about the Olympics. We will be comparing the ancient and modern Olympics and writing about differences and similarities. We will also focus on the Rio Olympics 2016 and answer comprehension questions about this.
In PSHE we will be learning about the Paralympic games and how we celebrate difference and diversity.
In geography we will be learning more about Brazil using what we have learnt in computing to make PowerPoints about the country.
Week beginning 4.7.16
On Monday morning children will be meeting their new teacher during a transition morning.
In English we are continuing our report unit with the big question 'Where Would You Like To Live?'. We will be using the eBook to retrieve and record information. We will also be comparing and contrasting what it is like to live in different countries.
In maths we are learning how to add one digit and 3 digit numbers mentally using number facts. We will also be adding multiples of 10.
Week beginning 27.6.16
In English we are starting a new unit of work called 'Where Would You Like To Live?'. We will be learning what it's like to live in other countries using an eBook. We will be writing questions and using the text to answer them.
In maths we will be continuing to learn how to use the grid method for multiplication. We will also be using this to help us use mathematical reasoning to solve problems.
In science we will learning about the human skeleton, the names of the main bones and the it's function.

In English we will be planning and writing our mystery stories.
In Maths we will be learning how to use the grid method for multiplication. We will also be solving word problems involving multiplication and division.
In science we are learning about the nutrition of humans and other animals.
Week beginning 13.6.16
In English we will be writing a set of instructions for My Money Week and exploring language to write sentences that create suspense.
In maths we will be continuing to learn to tell the time. This week we will be telling the time to the nearest minute as well as learning how to read Roman numerals on an analogue clock.
This week is My Money Week in school. On Tuesday we will be learning more about money by putting on an afternoon tea for parents to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday. We will be finding the total cost for buying ingredients, making the food and drinks and inviting parents in to share afternoon tea with us. We will also be making posters and bunting to decorate. It will be an exciting day!
Week beginning 6.6.16
In English we will be investigating mystery stories in more depth. We will be writing sentences that create suspense to use in our own mystery stories.
In maths we will be learning to tell the time to the nearest five minutes using analogue and digital clocks as well as writing the time in words.
In DT we will be investigating, designing, making and evaluating bread this week as part of our very own 'The Great British Bread Off'.
Week beginning 23.5.16
In English we will continue to read 'Ottoline and the Yellow Cat'. We will be writing a postcard and notebook entry in the role of Ottoline. We will also be recording clues to solve the mystery from the text.
In maths we are learning to multiply and divide numbers by 10. We will also be rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.
In art we will be learning a range of different drawing techniques and we will have the chance to use a range of media e.g. pencils, charcoal, pastels. We will also be exploring a range of famous portraits by artists such as Picasso, David Hockney and Andy Warhol. We will then create our own mixed media self portraits by the end of the week.
Week beginning 16.5.16
In English we will be continuing our work on mystery stories as we read 'Ottoline and the Yellow Cat'. We will be learning how to use a range of conjunctions.We will also be exploring the character 'Mr Munroe' from the text.
In maths we are learning how to solve problems involving missing numbers ( + - and x). We will also be working on subtracting two and three digit numbers using written and mental methods.
In science we will be learning about how to stop tooth decay during our toothpaste investigation.
Week beginning 9.5.16
In English we will be starting a new unit on mystery stories. We will begin to read 'Ottoline and the Yellow Cat'. We will be exploring the text in more detail in a range of comprehension activities.
In maths we will be learning how to construct, read and interpret pictograms and bar charts.
In science we will be learning about the different types of teeth we have and their functions. We will also be carrying out an investigation to find out the effect of different drinks on our teeth.
Week beginning 2.5.16
In English we will be editing and re-drafting our poems based on the work of Benjamin Zephaniah. We will also be writing a a short mystery story for our cold task before we start our new unit of work on mystery stories.
In maths we will be learning about fractions. We will be finding equivalent fractions; ordering and comparing fractions and writing mixed numbers.
Y3 have their final Pedestrian Skills session on Friday afternoon. Y2 will be continuing with their indoor PE session.
Week beginning 25.4.16
In English we continue our poet study of Benjamin Zephaniah. This week we will be learning a poem by heart, working on punctuating direct speech and writing our own poem in a similar style to his work.
In maths we are learning to about fractions. We will also be revisiting doubling and halving.
Year 2 are going to be describing and comparing a range of common animals.
Year 3 will be describing the simple functions and basic parts of the digestive system.
Week beginning 18.4.16
In English we are starting a new poetry unit. We will be learning about performance poetry and carrying out a poet study on Benjamin Zephaniah. We will be learning about the poet and what inspires him to write. We will also be investigating lots of his poems as well as learning one by heart.
In maths we are learning how to partition 2 and 3 digit numbers in different ways. We will also be learning to apply a range of addition strategies to add 2 and 3 digit numbers including expanded column addition.
We will be finishing off making our money containers this week and evaluating them.
Week beginning 11.4.16
In English we will be planning and writing our own alternative version of the traditional tale 'The Three Little Pigs'. We will also be exploring lots of non fiction features such as writing labels for diagrams and investigating existing products in our DT project on money containers.
Our maths this week will mainly be learning through our DT project. We will be measuring, estimating and marking out materials for out money containers. We will also be revisiting and recalling our multiplication facts all week.
