A look back at Autumn 1.
English - We have read lots of different stories this half term including Simpkin, Whatever, The Enormous Crocodile and lots of Harry and the Dinosaur stories. We were given a variety of opportunities to write for different purposes - character descriptions, poems, our own stories. We continued our learning in rainbow grammar and our whole class reading sessions. The children created some fantastic stories for Harry and the Dinosaurs.
Maths – We started with place value and number. We then looked at counting, comparing and ordering numbers, reading and writing numbers and looking at tens and one then, moved onto addition and subtraction. Children did really well adapting to the new Mathematics Mastery curriculum and are using brilliant Mathematical language.
History - our focus was ‘The Great Fire of London’. We used timelines to sequence the events, looked at how the fire started and looked at diary entries and have written our own accounts of what happened.
Science – We started with the question 'Why would a dinosaur not make a good pet?' We found out about different dinosaurs, their habitat, what they like to eat and found out about how we know dinosaurs roamed the earth.
What a busy half term we have had! I am extremely proud of all the learning the children haven taken part in and have seen fantastic attitudes from all. Well Done Elf Owls.
