We have had a great start to the year. Here are some of our highlights from the first half term:
English - We are currently reading Holes, we have about the last 10 chapters to go! To launch the book we did some artwork to show what we thought Camp Green lake was like (photos below) and some discovered how very wrong we all were! We have used the book to develop our reading and writing skills - so far we have written a setting description, a report about lizards, a newspaper article and we are currently writing an argument text using one of the themes from the book.
Y6 have completed a topic on number, ensuring we were all confident in working with numbers in the millions. We can now read, write, order and compare very large numbers! We moved onto calculations and have so far developed our learning on addition, subtraction and multiplication.
In our indoor lessons we have been working on Body Management in gymnastics. We have been focusing on balances and holding still positions both on our own and with a partner. We have demonstrated balances which show control, stillness and body tension. We explored partner work using mirroring, matching, counter-balance and counter-tension. The highlight of any gymnastic topic is to explore the apparatus!
We enjoyed a visit from a teacher from The Axholme Academy - we enjoyed taking part in a quiz about some of the European countries and how to say 'hello' in 5 different languages.
We have enjoyed our topic on 'Livin' on a Prayer' both singing the song and performing some of the musical accompaniment on the glockenspiels. We also listened to other classic rock songs and compared and contrasted them.
We have also spent a lot of time learning the Young Voices songs ready for the concert in January!
