The Spotted Owl class have had a fantastic start to the year and we are all very proud of everything we have achieved this half term.
Geography- Countries of the UK
We have been learning all about the countries of the United Kingdom. We had to research and find out lots of information about England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We enjoyed sharing this information with our families at our curriculum event.
Science- animals including humans
We have been learning about different animals. First we learned about our own bodies and made sure we could name lots of different body parts. We then learned about our senses and how they help us experience the world around us. After that we learned to identify and name a variety of animals. We had to think carefully about how animals are the same and how they are different. We have also learned about what animals eat and we can now identify carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
PSHE- Giraffes Can’t Dance
We enjoyed reading about Gerald the Giraffe and how he overcome his fear of dancing. We discussed the importance of having a growth mindset and talked about the things we find tricky. We have decided we might not be able to do everything yet, but the important thing is to keep on trying.
We have been learning all about rap music. After listening to a variety of rap musicians, we learned our own song called ‘Hey You!’. We then used glockenspiels to play along to the rhythm.
European Language Day
We had great fun celebrating our Key Stage 1 ‘European Languages Day’. Throughout the day we took part in activities to improve our French vocabulary. We tried some French breakfast food, which we agreed was delicious! After that we learned some common French greetings, practised saying colours in French before learning the song 'Arc en Ciel'. We also enjoyed finding out about the French artist Henri Matisse and created our own artwork inspired by Matisse’s ‘The Snail’.
