English - Macbeth
We are loving our work on Macbeth in English - s o far we have used drama to recreate the battle scene in Act 1 - the children were all very dramatic recreating fighting and wounded soldiers and of course, the 3 fiendish witches! We have worked really hard developing our vocabulary as we are currently turning the playscript into a narrative. They are going to be fantastic!
In maths, Y6 have completed units on calculation problems and fractions. In our first unit we covered number sequences and algebra. Here the children worked really hard to develop their understanding on expressing problems using algebraic expressions and using formula to solve problems. During our fractions unit, we have consolidation learning on what a fraction is and recapped equivalent and simplifying fractions.
In Geography we have been studying the USA. We used maps to identify the 50 states, we then chose one of these states to research. We had to find out what the human and physical features were, the climate and why people should visit. We used the information to create a tourist guide. We also studied New York, finding out why it is so popular with tourists but also recognised that with so many visitors, this also comes with problems such as overcrowding., to show our understanding, we created posters of rules for tourists to abide by.
Some of the boys in our class represented our school at the Scunthorpe United Tournament. The boys were brilliant sportsman and played great football! We came home victorious as the winners of the Shield Draw Cup.
