This term we have been working very hard to use our effort and resilience in all areas of learning. We are beginning to understand that learning can be tricky and this is good because it means we are learning new things. In our free play we are trying to complete challenges and link our learning to our free choice.
The children in Little Owls have been keen to complete learning challenges at home. Look at some of our wonderful Autumn creations.
Extending our learning at home
The children learnt a lot about Current and past Christmas traditions. They persevered to make their own Christmas wreaths as a sign to welcome others into their homes. Many of the children hung their wreaths on their bedroom doors. It was a tricky job with lots of cutting but the children were extremely proud of their achievements. The wreaths looked beautiful, I'm sure you will agree.
What a wonderful Christmas period we had. Our activities included; Christingle making, writing and going to post letters to Santa, Christmas dinner with our family and school community, Christmas party, concert for our parents and family and lastly a concert for the residents of Greenacres. It has been a very exciting and busy time.
Part of our mastery in maths learning involved using and understanding the language of weight. We used the balance to find things; heavier, lighter, heaviest, lightest etc. Once we had mastered this we looked at how when the scales balance the objects weigh the same. We used this knowledge to bake buns for snack time, weighing all the ingredients against an egg. We had lots of fun while learning and definitely enjoyed the end result.
