Although this term was a little shorter than expected, the Spotted Owls did lots of fantastic learning during Spring 2.
Having deciphered all the clues, KS1 were very excited to find out we were learning all about traditional tales this half term! First we looked at the features of traditional tales to find out what all the stories have in common. The children put their knowledge to the test in a tricky traditional tales’ quiz. Then we looked at the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and read different versions before creating ‘wanted’ posters to find the Big Bad Wolf. Year one worked on choosing powerful adjectives to improve their descriptive writing while year 2 focused on identifying different grammatical features in a text.
World Book Day
The Spotted Owls had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day. We all shared our favourite stories and it was wonderful to hear the children talk about their love of reading. The children took part in a number of activities including decorating a potato as their favourite character, ‘secret storytellers’ with parents and create their own bookmark.
In computing we have been using a drawing app. We had to retrieve our learning from the Autumn term about how to draw self-portraits. The children had to explore using different tools to create the right effects. We also practised opening word documents and adding text.
We have been learning about printing. The children enjoyed using different objects to explore making prints. We look forward to making our own prints next term.
