A look forward to Autumn 2.
English – We will begin the term looking at poetry and using the environment around us to create Autumn Leaves poems. We will also explore our senses to write Bonfire Night Poems. We will look at Remembrance Day in reading and continue our work on Poetry looking at famous Poems from the First World War. Our first novel study text will be ‘Can’t you sleep, Little Bear?’ Children will be exploring new vocabulary. We will also look at different link texts such as ‘The Owl who was afraid of the dark’, ‘The Dark’, ‘The King who banned the dark’. Closer to Christmas we will be looking at festive tales and tying this in with our Nativity.
Maths – We start with Shape, direction and position, encouraging children to discuss properties of shapes and start to create algorithms for moving a bee-bot. We then move on to exploring numbers over 20 and using ‘make-ten’ strategies for addition. We will use different equipment to explore number bonds and start to read, interpret and solve simple word problems.
History – We will focus on Bonfire Night, thinking about why this started. We will also move onto Remembrance Day with this year being the centenary year, children will take part in memorial services with the rest of school which will include a visit to church and creating their own Poppy Soldier to be part of a whole school display.
Science – In line with our Novel Study, children will look at Light and Dark in science and seasonal changes. We will discuss why we might be afraid in the dark and how the dark can be an amazing thing.
We have another busy half term planned and I’m sure the children and myself cannot wait to get going!
