Summer 1 learning
This half term, in English, we continue our novel 'The Butterfly Lion' by Michael Morpurgo.
We will be writing diary entries, letters, persuasive arguments and stories amongst other writing activities based on the novel and answering questions about the text in reading using our ERIC skills - explain, retrieval, inference and (author) choice . We will also be exploring texts in reading to support our science and history topics:
Science: How far can you throw a shadow? (light and seeing)
History: What would you have done after school 100 years ago? (entertainment in the 20th century)
Our new novel will be revealed towards the end of this half term…
In maths we will be continuing to explore area followed by solving measure and money problems before we move on to symmetry and shape through the maths mastery approach.
In spelling we will be using the sounds and syllables approach to learn how to spell words and about spelling patterns.
In grammar we will looking at coordinating and subordinating clauses, expanded noun phrases, speech punctuation, pronouns and word classes (nouns, verbs, prepositions, adjectives, adverbs and determiners).
In RE we will be exploring Hinduism through the question - How can Brahman be everywhere and in everything?
In computing we will be exploring animation and learning how to keep safe online.
In music our learning is focused around one song: Blackbird by the Beatles. We will develop our musical skills and understanding based on this song.
In French our unit of work is entitled Vive le sport which focuses on making simple statements about activities and food and drink.
In PE our topics are gymnastics and net/wall games. In gym we will be practising spins and leaps and creating simple sequences. In net/wall games we will be learning tennis and netball skills.
Our PSHCE topic is entitled Healthy Me and our British value focus this half term is Mutual Respect.
