Summer 1 learning
This half term, in English, we will be discovering a new novel - the title will be revealed in the first week back!
We will be writing character descriptions, poems, diary entries, letters, persuasive texts and a new chapter based on this new and very exciting novel. We will be focusing on how author's bring their writing to life using language features such as alliteration, onomatopoeia and similies and answering questions about the text in reading using our ERIC skills - explain, retrieval, inference and (author) choice . We will also be exploring texts in reading to support our science and history topics:
Science: How far can you throw a shadow? (light and seeing) - this unit of work will be completed during our class visit to 20:21 for a shadow puppetry workshop.
History: What would you have done after school 100 years ago? (entertainment in the 20th century)
In maths we will be continuing to explore shape, position and direction, reasoning and then 3D shapes we will explore this through the maths mastery approach.
In spelling we will be using the sounds and syllables approach to learn how to spell words and about spelling patterns.
In grammar we will be focusing on non-finite clauses, apostrophes for possession and contraction, expanded noun phrases, speech punctuation and word classes (nouns, verbs, prepositions, adjectives, adverbs and determiners).
In RE we will be exploring Hinduism through the question - Would visiting the River Ganges feel special to a non-Hindu?
In computing we will be exploring animation through silent movies linked to our history topic, drawing and desktop publishing and learning how to keep safe online.
In art and design technology we will be exploring changing the colour of fabrics and comfortable cushions through tie-dye fabric cushion designs. We then use these skills to create our own unique T-shirt!
In music we will be listening and appraising classical music, singing, playing instruments within the song, improvising using voices and instruments, composing and sharing and performing the learning that has taken place.
In French our unit of work is entitled Les Quatres Amis which focuses on making simple statements about animals and movement.
In PE our topics are gymnastics, athletics and striking and fielding games (including cricket and rounders). We will also be taking part in sports day and performing a dance routine at the summer picnic.
Our PSHCE topic is entitled Changing me and our British value focus this half term is tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.
It looks like we will be having another very busy term!
