Spring 2 learning
This half term, in English, we continue or fantasy story theme based on The Spiderwick Chronicles and Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical Guide around you. We will be inventing a make-believe character and writing a report about them
Our novel study for the remainder of Spring Term will be 'The Butterfly Lion' by Michael Morpurgo.
We will be writing diary entries, letters, persuasive arguments and stories amongst other writing activities based on the novel and answering questions about the text in reading using our ERIC skills - explain, retrieval, inference and (author) choice . We will also be exploring texts in reading to support our science learning about humans and animals to answer the question - How can Usain Bolt move so quickly?
In maths we will be continuing to explore multiplication and division followed by time and fractions through the maths mastery approach.
In spelling we will be using the sounds and syllables approach to learn how to spell words and about spelling patterns.
In grammar we will looking at apostrophes for contractions and possession, linking adverbs and subordinating conjunctions.
In RE we will be discussing miracles through the question - What is good about Good Friday?
In computing we will using iPads to write a computer programme on Scratch and learning how to keep safe online.
In music our learning is focused around one song: Lean on Me - a soul/gospel song by Bill Withers. We develop our musical skills and understanding based on this song.
In French we will be learning about Easter and how it is celebrated in France.
In PE our topics are gymnastics and net/wall games. In gym we will be practising floor exercises; working with a partner to create an imaginative and complex sequence and giving and responding to feedback from peers. In net/wall games we will be learning tennis skills, playing shots with precision and control.
Our PSHCE topic is entitled Healthy Me and our British value focus this half term is Mutual Respect.
