This term, we begin our new topic Mini-beasts. We will be exploring life-cycles through caterpillars/ butterflies and we will have our own caterpillars to look after and observe in the classroom. We will be also be investigating other mini-beasts such as spiders and bees.
We will also be exploring plants and growing through the Jack and the Beanstalk story and discussing why plants are important to mini-beasts.
In maths we will be ordering and counting forwards and backwards from 0-20, moving to counting to 100! We will be practising our number formation, ensuring that we are writing numbers the right way round. We will explore doubling, halving and sharing and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We will spend some time working on addition and subtraction.
We will be naming and describing the properties of 2d and 3d shapes and measuring time in different ways.
We will be exploring a range of fiction, non-fiction and poems about mini-beasts. We will be writing in sentences about stories we have read and about mini-beast facts. Our focus will be on composing sentences about a theme, using punctuation correctly and presenting our writing neatly on the line.
Phonics (reading and writing)
In phonics we will continue learning to read and write simple sentences including 2-syllable words. We will also learn to read and spell words which have adjacent consonants, such as trap, string and milk.
We will be learning some new tricky words this term: said, have, like, so, do, some, come, were, there, little, one, when, out, what.
In PE our focus will be team games, object control and athletics, ready for sports day. We will also spend time exploring mini-beasts through dance.
In PSHE we will be exploring and discussing friendships and relationships.
