This term, we begin our new topic Mini-beasts. We will be exploring life-cycles through caterpillars/ butterflies and we will have our own caterpillars to look after and observe in the classroom. We will be also be investigating other mini-beasts such as spiders and bees.
We will also be exploring plants and growing through the Jaspers Bean story and discussing why plants are important to mini-beasts. We will grow some potatoes in a sack to cook and taste at the end of the school year. We will also be growing sunflower plants.
In maths we will be ordering and counting forwards and backwards from 0-10, and moving on to counting to 20 and beyond. We will continue looking at the properties of 2d shapes and some 3d shapes. We will work hard on our number recognition.
In literacy we will be taking part in the Great North Lincolnshire Rhyme Challenge, because Great Rhymers make Great Readers!
This is a very exciting project and I am really looking forward to our children being a part of it. As part of the challenge we will be holding our booknics which will include singing the rhyme of the week and making a simple prop for the rhyme. All of our parents/carers are invited to take part in this and we look forward to seeing you. Our first rhyme is Star light Star Bright and we will incorporate Twinkle /Twinkle as it is a familiar one. I will be sending out the words to the rhyme so that the children can also learn the rhymes at home.
In our P.E. sessions we will learn to move in a variety of ways trying to move like many of the mini-beasts we will be studying.
