Week beginning 14th July
Our last full week together is going to be another busy one!
We will be making and evaluating our puppets. There will be the preparations for the summer fayre. We will be having a focus on capacity to help us with making our lemonade. All in all I want our last week to be a fun one!
Week beginning 7th July
What a busy week we have got in store!
On Monday morning we will be spending time with our new classes.
Tuesday is our trip to Cleethorpes. I hope the weather stays fine for us!
For the rest of the week we will be writing recounts and postcards about our trip and we will be having a DT focus as we design and make our own puppets.
If you have any puppets (finger, glove or marionette puppets) could we please borrow them on Wednesday for use to look at and investigate.
Week beginning 30th June
Literacy - we will be reading and writing our own poems this week. We will be looking at how to expand our ideas by using adjectives to describe nouns and we will be writing our own Magic Box poem.
Numeracy - we will be looking at doubles and near doubles. We will be using this knowledge to help us add more than one number.
Afternoon work - we will be composers this week. We are going to be composing and performing our own sound postcard about being at the seaside.
On Monday we are having a seaside inspired day. We will be finishing our history work by writing a report about seaside holidays from the past. We will be investigating numbers in numeracy and enjoying lots of beach activities in the afternoon.
Week beginning 23rd June
Literacy - we will be starting a new narrative unit of work. We will be reading Dolphin Boy by Michael Morpurgo. We will be asking questions about what we would like to find out and exploring the characters. We will also be writing a new blurb for the story.
Numeracy - we will be looking at number this week. We will be comparing numbers and using our knowledge of place value to add and subtract 2-digit numbers.
Afternoon work - we will be finishing our work about seaside holidays from the past.
Don't forget it is sports day on Tuesday. We are looking forward to you joining us.
Week beginning 16th June
Literacy - we will be having another look at recounts. We will be reading and retelling the story of The Jolly Postman. We will then be writing recounts about his adventures on his post round.
Numeracy - we will be looking at measures this week. We will be weighing things using grammes and then we will be using millilitres to find the capacity of containers. Could you please bring in any empty 1 litre containers for us to use in our capacity work on Thursday and Friday.
Afternoon work - we will be starting our history work about seaside holidays from the past.
Don't forget that it is the 'wedding' on Wednesday morning. We are looking forward to you joining us in this celebration at St Oswald's Church at 9.30am.
Week beginning 9th June
Literacy - we will be continuing our information text work about sharks. We will be collecting information about different sharks and making information posters.
Numeracy - we will be continuing our work on multiplication with learning the 2 times table and developing our understanding of arrays and then at the end of the week we will be looking at division.
Afternoon work - we will be finishing our science work by looking at different animal coverings.
Week beginning 2nd June
Literacy - we will be starting our work on information texts. We will be finding out about sharks and then we will be planning and writing reports about them.
Numeracy - we will be looking at multiplication this week. We will be learning how to write number sentences using the x sign and then jumping on a number line in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Afternoon work - we will be starting our science work about animals. We will be looking at the similarities and differences between fish and humans and looking the the different parts of a fish.
On Wednesday we will be working with an artist to make our own puppets.
Week beginning 19th May
Literacy - we will be planning and writing a new adventure for Dougal the deep-sea diver.
Numeracy - we will be looking at 3d shapes and practising how to tell the time.
Afternoon work - we will be finishing our geography by planning our own seaside town and discussing the pros and cons of living at the seaside.
Week beginning 12th May
Literacy - we will be continuing our work about Dougal. We will be writing diary entries and postcards and using conjunctions such as and, but, because, so to join our sentences.
Numeracy - we will be doubling and halving and finding fractions of shapes.
Afternoon work - we will be continuing our Geography work by looking at the features of seasides and then planning our own seaside town.
Week beginning 5th May
Literacy - we will be starting a new unit on narrative this week. We will be reading a book called Dougal's Deep-Sea Diary by Simon Bartram. We will then be looking at settings and describing them, sequencing events and writing questions to ask Dougal.
Numeracy - we will be finding the difference between 2 numbers and then using our knowledge of number bonds to help us with addition and subtraction.
Afternoon work - we will be starting out geography work by locating UK seaside resorts.

Week beginning 28th April
Literacy - we will be using a book called 'Where the forest meets the sea' to inspire more poems about the sea.
Numeracy - we will be looking at number bonds and how we can use these facts to help us with addition and subtraction.
Afternoon work - we will be continuing our art work this week by looking closely at shells and producing some obesrvational drawings.
Week beginning 23rd April
Literacy - we will be using images to help us write descriptive poems about the sea.
Numeracy - we will be comparing numbers by using the < and > signs and rounding numbers to the nearest 10.
Afternoon work - we will be creating seascapes using a wide range of media - collage and watercolours.
