Computing and E-Safety
The academy bases the teaching of computing on the National Curriculum.
Our intent for computing is to ensure that all children:
- can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
- can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
- can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
- are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
The implementation of the teaching of computing is currently under review. If you would like any information please contact the Computing subject leader (Mrs Fawcett).
E-Safety
At Crowle Primary Academy, we ensure that the safety of our children is everyone’s top priority. With the ever-expanding access to the internet and the potential risks that this can pose, e-safety is taught as an essential part of our safeguarding curriculum. We enable children to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be able to use the internet accordingly, but with minimal risk, whilst ensuring they have the necessary skills to be able to identify when they could be in potential danger and what to do about this.
Our curriculum intent for online safety aims to ensure that all pupils are responsible, users of information and communication .
Running alongside a progressive curriculum that teaches children how to keep themselves safe from potential threats of other internet users, we deliver sessions that include messages that link to the Prevent Strategy. Potential risks associated with being radicalised whilst accessing the internet are covered within this scheme of work, ensuring that every e-safety aspect is delivered to our pupils.
At Crowle Primary Academy, we predominantly follow the UK digital curriculum from Common Sense Education. This curriculum introduces children to the 6 key themes of;
- Media Balance & Wellbeing
- Cyberbullying, Digital Drama & Hate Speech
- Relationships & Communication
- News & Media Literacy
- Privacy & Security
- Digital Footprint & Identity
The curriculum has been aligned to the UKCIS framework, additionally, the curriculum aligns with many aspects of the Computing curriculum, Relationships and Sex Education curriculum, Keeping Children Safe in Education and the guidance for Teaching Online Safety in Schools, ensuring that our pupils have the most relevant lessons delivered to them.
This scheme of work is delivered from Reception through to Year 6, through a progressive model whereby age appropriate, specific themes are delivered to the children which are developed throughout each year group.
