Music

The Academy uses Sing Up Music to support teaching and learning in Music. The scheme is structured to support the key concepts: singing, listening, composing and performing. Sing Up provides a creative and engaging programme of high-quality classroom music activity, which are designed and written by subject specialists. We have used the scheme to support us to develop a sequenced and progressive programme of learning that is in line with the Model Music Curriculum.

Our intent for Music is that it provides children with development opportunities to;

-perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians

-learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence

-understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

Implementation of Music

We work with a range of organisations to provide specialist instrumental tuition and high-quality performance opportinities for our children, including North Lincolnshire Music Hub, Royal Opera North, Young Voices, Rocksteady Music School and Street Beat Academy.

Outlined below is the knowledge, skills and vocabulary progression at Crowle Primary Academy for each strand of learning in Music.

EYFS

At Crowle Primary Academy, Music will be inter-woven into ongoing provision in the EYFS as well as being taught discrete, specific skills and knowledge outline in our progression map. Through this, children build the foundations of Musical Knowledge they can take with them through their academic journey.
