A busy week
This half term we will be learning about animals and different habitats across the world. We kicked off this learning by finding out about emperor penguins through our class text 'The Emperor's Egg' by Martin Jenkins. We have been learning lots of facts about penguins and what like if like in Antarctica. The children had to look after their own penguin egg and had a go at balancing their egg on their feet and creating huddles to stay warm. We also had a quiz to see if the children remembered the jobs that mum and dad penguins do to look after their chick. During provision time, the children had great fun making their own penguins. We have also be exploring a variety of fiction and non-fiction books about penguins.
In maths we have been learning that numbers beyond 5 can be thought of as '5 and a bit more'. This is helping us see the composition of numbers 6 and 7, such as '7 is made of 5 and 2 more'. During provision time, the children have been doing a great job practising wider maths such as counting, comparing and ordering.
As part of our 'Understanding the World' learning we have been doing a LYFTA unit where we learn about Anna in Norway. This has been a fabulous opportunity to discuss what the children are passionate about and how it feels to both win and lose.
