Welcome back

Welcome back to the second half term, Little Owls! I have loved hearing about what the children have been up to in the holidays. The week we have been reading Funnybones by Janet and Allen Ahlberg. We have been focusing on reading and oracy skills through discussion of the characters, ordering pictures to show the beginning, middle and end of the story and learning the famous 'In a dark, dark town...' intro. The children loved making their own skeletons and using props to retell the story.

In maths we have been learning that whole objects are made up of parts. We explored this concepts by looking at jigsaws and take-apart toys. We also sang 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' and discussed how our bodies are made up of parts that can't come apart. This discussion around whole and parts will help the children understand how numbers are also made up of smaller parts.
